Caution – For use in ponds containing Koi carp exclusively
Q. How do I use the product? Is it a problem to dissolve it in the pond?
The product has been designed to rapidly disperse and dissolve in the pond water – follow the instructions on the label – simply pour the sachet into a clean bucket of pond water, stir and pour it into the pond and you will see it rapidly spread through the pond. If using 100 gram sachet use at least 2 buckets to mix.
Q. How accurately should I measure the dose?
Take care to measure or calculate the pond volume as it is important to use the correct dose.
Q. Will it affect the bacteria in filters?
No
Q. Will it affect plants in the pond?
No
Q. How long do I have to turn off UV?
7 days
Q. Can I use it as the same time as therapeutic salt in the pond?
Yes
Q. Why do I have to wait 3 weeks before giving the second dose – can I give it sooner?
The product is designed to persist in the pond water for at least 3 weeks, so when you give the 2nd dose 3 weeks after the first, it will ensure that the active ingredients are present for at least 6 weeks which will break the life cycle of any egg-laying flukes.
Q. Do I have to turn off the water trickle-in / trickle out systems?
Yes – any loss or removal of water from the pond will dilute the treatment making it less effective and running the risk of developing resistance. Turn it off for 7 days and then do a 10 -15% water change, remembering to top-up the product lost with the water change.
Q. Do I have to turn off surface skimmers when using the product?
No- surface skimmers which simply remove debris are not a problem
Q. What about using with protein skimmers and fractionators?
Turn them off for at least 7 days as they can remove the active ingredients of the product.
Q. What about using it with water conditioners and dechlorinators?
Both of these can remove the active ingredients from the pond water do not use for at least 4 days prior to treatment. However sodium thiosulphate is safe to use.
Q. Can I use it with my filtration system running?
This depends on the filter media you use. Media including shower filter media containing carbon or other absorbant materials can remove the active ingredients from the water. Therefore isolate this type of media for 3 days.
Q. Can I use it with a ‘detox’ product in the pond water?
No – again ‘detox’ products are designed to remove impurities from the pond water, which can include the active ingredients from the pond water.
Q. What about general pond management before and during treatment?
Flukes (and fluke eggs) can survive in the detritus in a pond so a good clean up makes sense before treatment to remove these hiding places.
Q. How long do I have to wait before I can use another treatment such as FMG?
7 days
Q. Do I need to strip the mucus off my fish before treating with Fluke-Solve Plus® ?
No – you do not need to use any chemicals such as potassium permanganate to strip the mucus before treatment. The mucus is part of the fish’s defence mechanism and Fluke-Solve Plus will still kill the flukes in the presence of mucus.
Additional Note: Make sure the precautions you take with the first treatment are repeated when you give the second dose 3 weeks later.
